Getting Through Turbulent Times

The Summit is such an intense experience it's hard to absorb it all! I will never forget the close of Jim Collins' talk when he referred to the kind of leadership required to get through turbulent times…
"The path out of darkness begins with those exasperatingly persistent individuals who are constitutionally incapable of capitulation. It’s one thing to suffer a staggering defeat—as will likely happen to every enduring business and social enterprise at some point in its history—and entirely another to give up on the values and aspirations that make the protracted struggle worthwhile. Failure is not so much a physical state as a state of mind; success is falling down, and getting up one more time, without end.”
I think that paragraph was seared into my conscience forever since the first time I read it in his book. I want to pursue God's calling with that kind of inner resolve that won't stop until I fulfill the race set before me.

As you get back to the day-to-day life after the Summit, what are the things that are still seared in your mind? What are the quotes that you're still thinking through?

  1. I appreciate how much the summit challenged the attendees to make a declaration, a task made easier by speakers who so often spurred us on to a life of being both content and unsettled, a life filled with satisfaction yet never satisfied with the status quo.

Along those lines, I think Christine Caine was inspirational as she constantly reminded me of a God who is big enough and powerful enough to do all those things through me that I so often think cannot be done.

  2. Interesting post. As I reflected on the Summit, the overall theme seemed to be: it is time to re-soul. We have been, and are, in the "Land Between," but many of the Summit messages showed a way to move through it. From listening to God's whispers to being authentic to leveraging the tensions, all are ways to renew and re-energize.

It is this thought of "Weathered souls" and what we do next that was key from the Summit, which was outlined earlier today in my blog.

Thanks again for an inspiring Summit!

  4. I can't find info on the follow up webinars on the Willow site. Also, I'm looking for a CD of Jeff Manion's talk. The order sheet says to go to willowcreek.com to order but I can't find it on the website. Can anyone help?

  5. I'm still working my way through Jim Collin's suggestions on what to do, one of which is to write down 100 blessings to guard my heart and mind during turbulent times. Next is to do a list of things not to do.

  9. I get sound bytes of words (whispers) and I was fairly hesitant that I would hear a whisper at all. The word I kept hearing and continue to hear is story. I think it may have been the "good to great" speaker that mentioned giving others dignity. My biggest challenge is returning to a day job that is rote while I want to continue to feel the fire from the summit.
